Bloodaxe - interview 07-01-2005 (www.nocturnalhorde.com) ET: Hail Nordavinden, how are things in Canada and how are you? N: Anders, you crazy fucker!!! It's fucking cold and frozen in Northern Ontario, a nice average temperature of -40 c here for most of the winter hopefully it gets down to at least -60!! Cabin fever sets in and people start to go crazy then usually kill themselves in the spring!! ET: You are finally ready with your new onslaught on humanity, in form of "Raping The Ancient", how do you feel about the album? N: An almost complete vision of what Bloodaxe is all about. It fucking cuts a path of total DESTRUCTION….like an ARCTIC FRONT! ET: How is it to finally have it finished and out on the streets? N: It's a great feeling in some ways. Musically and vocally it's the best Bloodaxe has done. But the best is yet to come!! ET: The album is overall not as violent and noisy as your first release "Bloodthrone". But more epic and atmospheric, without loosing the edge, why did the album turn out like that? N: A different album obviously. You can't keep recording the same album over and over ..unless your Dark throne. ET: What were you aiming for when you wrote the material for "Raping The Ancient"? N: The concept behind the album as well as the general feeling wasn't one of overall hatred and aggression but more of depression and isolation but of course the hate is still in there. The "Rape" of the ancient Scandinavian peoples. A lot has been addressed concerning the Native (North American Indians) issue of burial ground and so on, being disrupted, but no one has ever said anything about the Scandinavians and how their burial mounds have been excavated. ET: Did the album turn out as you wanted it to? N: No. The production and mix are not what I wanted and I wish the drums where more intense. Also 3 tracks on the album I was not going to use, Loki's Fury, The Burning Season and While you lie Bleeding. They weren't as tight and finished as I had wanted. I released them anyways. Although it was released in November 2004 it still ended up on a lot of peoples "best of 2004" lists which cracks me up. ET: Do have anything you would like to accomplish with the new album? N: The most important thing is to RAPE THE EARS of as many people as possible!! World wide Slaughter Ride!! ET: What did influence you when you wrote the music and lyrics for "Raping The Ancient", both musically and non-musically? N: Everything comes from inside. I have too much going on in myself to ever be influenced by any other means. ET: The album is called "Raping The Ancient", what does the title symbolize? N: Raping the ancestors. The exploitation of our Scandinavian ancestors. ET: Will you tell about the lyrical themes on the album, and what inspired you to write the lyrics? N: Being lost at sea, extreme weather, raping and killing. Respect to the ancestors. ET: How is it going for the band and the first release, a lot of good feedback and future world domination? N: The first release Bloodthrone has been sold out for sometime now. A lot of great feedback yeah. The Viking Death Squad is small but growing. ET: Have you been approached by any labels wanting to release Bloodaxe in the future? N: No label has ever shown any interest in Bloodaxe. Bloodaxe is underground and independent and will continue to stay that ways until someone with really large breasts and lot's of beer tries to persuade me other wise. I have turned down more then a few licensing "deals" lately. ET: Would you ever accept an offer from another label, or will you stay true to White Legends? N: I highly doubt it. ET: The most of "Raping The Ancient" has been done in a while, so have you been working on new music? N: For sure, the next album will be entitled "For those who Hunt the Wounded Down". Most of it has been written for some time. ET: How much music you have ready in the moment, and when are going to record/release it? N: I'm recording rough guitar tracks right now. I'm in no rush for the next album. Everything has been written for a while, should be at least 40 minutes of sheer enjoyable BLISS!!! ET: Do you have any idea about how you and Bloodaxe will evolve? N: Each release is an IMPROVEMENT not an evolution in my opinion. ET: How big a part of you is Bloodaxe? N: I AM BLOODAXE. I have ALWAYS played this style, this unique style of BLOODAXE. All my emotions are in this. I'm not like others who have started with Death Metal then decided to "switch" to Black Metal. I have played this style and have been BLOODAXE for far longer then I would like to admit! ET: Will you ever stop feeling like you do now and perhaps stop Bloodaxe? N: Well my psychotherapist says I will never be "normal" so I will always feel the way I do. I will always be A FUCKING MANIAC!! I will stop Bloodaxe when I create the best metal I can. An album that I look back on and don't want to change a single thing. Then I will start a disco country band called the Whiskey Bitches. Ahhhhhahahaha. ET: What are the reasons for you to spread your music through Bloodaxe? N: TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION AND DOMINATION!!! ET: Is Rati still a part of the band, or are you currently hunting drummers? N: I haven't spoken to him in almost a year..hard to say. He will always be a part of Bloodaxe in one way or another. Other studio drummers have been contacted but I haven't really decided on one or the other yet. ET: You've done a lot lately to promote Bloodaxe, among other things, booking tracks on magazine samplers around the world. How well does that kind of promotion work, and are there rip offs out there? N: Its cool. I put "Drifting of Ull" on a cd sampler from Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles which really fucking promoted it well. I just received a letter from a guy from up North in an Indian reserve a place of 283 people. He said he heard Drifting of Ull on that sampler and wanted to know how much for the Raping the Ancient cd. I sent him out a free cd, cause I'm such a nice fucking guy. Rip offs eh? Yeah we both know of one. Fucking ANCIENT CEREMONIES from Portugal. Fucking cock sucking little fucker. Paid him money to have a track on his issue #12 in November 2003. Magazine was to be out no later then December of that year. Hundreds of emails later..he kept saying, "oh it will be out at the end of the month", now he doesn't return his mails. Fucking fucker..make this fucking rip off jew pay!!! DON"T SUPPORT HIM IN ANYWAY. Also you reviewed my last album and sent a copy to him to be included in his magazine and he ARGUED with you that there's no way that you can give that album such a good review..he wanted to change it.!?!!??! FUCK THIS ASSHOLE!!! ET: Do you use the internet a lot to promote the band? N: No. I told 10 people that the new album was done. Your one of them. ET: How do you look upon filesharing, downloading etc.? N: It's the best thing ever. Fuck LARS ULRICH dirty little bitch. I think the time will be soon when bands don't even bother getting pro made cds. Everything will be just downloaded on the net. Let's hope this never happens. It's good to have a limited release of extreme metal in your hands!! ET: There has just been a lot of fuss in Canada about the rape charges against Satyricon's 2 session guitarists. How big is the case in Canada and what are your views on it? N: Not big news here at all. The big news here is faggot marriage and Mad cow disease. But yeah I heard about it. I was at that venue the Fun Haus in July to see the Gates of Hell fest with Anvil, Razor, Exciter and Infernal Majesty. A real hole in the ground, very small crappy club. Maybe now this shit band will finally call it quits? After REBEL they should have killed themselves!! First the major label then the fucking SLIP KNOT drummer??? FUCK…serves them right. ET: Which albums have you been listening a lot too lately and can you recommend some great upcoming Canadian metal? N: I'm listening to the new album from Norwegian band Gåte, a folk metal band from Trondheim. I don't listen to or hear about too much Canadian music. Mostly what I've heard from Canada is fucking DARKTHRONE CLONES!! I'd rather listen to the snowfall then listen to such shit. ET: Thanks a ton for answering my questions, if you have anything to add, please feel free to do it now! N: I am cool…I am the NORTH WIND!! |
